Session Descriptions

Carrots not Whips, Creative Fringe Benefits

Speaker(s):
Ian Quigley

Many employers have been dealing in recent years with both labour shortages and escalating labour costs.  The labour pool has now extended to a diverse mix of candidates stratified both globally and demographically.  Employers work hard to offer competitive salaries, holidays and health and dental plans (traditional fringe benefits), but such effort seem to fall short in the current environment.  Is this the result of a changing labour pool, or a changing corporate culture?  Do “Wellness Programs” and other unique benefits really work?  Can they enhance both the bond with the traditional employee as well as the Generation X and the foreign worker?

This seminar will review published academic literature and studies done on the psychology of Fringe Benefits from a productivity and motivation perspective where you will gain practical insights on how to better deploy traditional fringe benefits, like health and dental programs, as well as more modern inventions, like Wellness Programs and Lifestyle Benefits.
