Corporate Finance Online - CMA Accelerated Program For Members
Objectives
The purpose of the Corporate Finance sessions is to assist you in developing the requisite competencies to complete the Corporate Finance component of the National Entrance Exam. Accordingly, the learning objectives are for students to:
• understand the role of the management accountant in financial management ;
• place a value on a wide range of investments;
• develop a financial plan
• manage short and long-term finances
The Sessions
The Corporate Finance sessions are intensive and require a significant commitment to complete. Sessions include readings, pretests, problems, post-reviews, and comprehensive reviews. Each session may require an additional 15 to 25 hours to complete the related material.
You are encouraged to actively participate in your sessions. Your participation provides feedback for the preparation of subsequent sessions that will benefit you and the Program.
Corporate Finance is a cumulative discipline. Concepts introduced early in the sessions, such as Time Value of Money are applied in later sessions (such as the valuation of investments). There are also several instances where a topic is cross referenced to another syllabus area. For example, capital budgeting is listed under both Management Accounting and Corporate Finance. It is essential that students keep current with the material and follow the recommended structure of progression.
Sessions 1-6
Financial Resource Management - Setting financial objectives and managing financial resources.
Financial Risk Management - Analyzing financial risk to maximize opportunities and mitigate threats by assessing financial risk in the external environment, identifying and evaluating operational funding requirements and developing and recommending strategic financial plans and forecasts.
Readings
Readings are to be completed prior to the sessions to prepare students at the knowledge skill level. The sessions concentrate on the comprehension and application skill levels.
Pretests and Post-reviews
The first five sessions will begin with a pretest to assess knowledge level skills. A pretest is an open-ended quiz consisting of one to three questions. The questions are based on the assigned reading for that session. An eighty percent completion rate is required on the pretests to pass the Accelerated Program. This requirement underscores the commitment required and the concentration on comprehension and application of the sessions.
Sessions may use post-reviews to provide practice with multiple-choice questions and to provide feedback for students. These are accessible through the portal, available at http://cmabc.desire2learn.com/. Post-reviews also serve as practice exams prior to the actual Accelerated Program Exams. Post-reviews are available for one week only from the date of the corresponding session.Note that members taking the course as a refresher are not required to write the exam.
Problems
The sessions use problems to convert knowledge level skills to comprehension and application skill levels. Problems also provide an approach to the multiple-choice format questions of the National Entrance Exam. Assigned problems are listed in the outline and should be completed in advance of the corresponding session.
Schedule
The session schedule given in this document informs students of the syllabus coverage, readings, and problems of each session and what to prepare. The chapter readings and the problems listed refer to your Entrance Examination Study Manual.
The schedule may be modified to suit the needs of the Program.
